New ASME (ANSI) A13.1-2007 Standard Markers for Pipe Identification

The ASME (ANSI) A13.1 Standard for pipe identification is a widely used guideline in determining pipe marking requirements.  Used in many industrial, commercial and institutional facilities, ASME (ANSI) A13.1 is the most commonly followed pipe marking standard.    Recently, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) revised the A13.1 Standard.  The new 2007 edition of the A13.1 has two major changes; the color scheme requirements and the classification categories for labels have both changed.

New ANSI Colors Color Scheme Change
In the new standard, there are 6 standard colors instead of the previous 4 colors. (new colors: Black on Orange & White on Brown)

Classification Change
The new standard also has new classifications categories.  In the new A13.1 - 2007 edition, the sub classifications are broken up into their own classification categories.  (ex. "FLAMMABLE: and "TOXIC FLUIDS" no longer share the same color scheme)
